What is YoungStar, and how do I earn a star rating?

YoungStar—Wisconsin’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS)—assesses, improves, and communicates the quality of early education and out of school time care providers across Wisconsin. In addition to assessing or rating quality practices that providers have worked hard to establish, it includes coaching, training, and resources designed to support provider growth.

How Ratings Work

YoungStar awards a rating between 1 and 5 Star for every participating provider. To recognize quality growth, all providers must complete a new rating process once every other year. When you choose to be rated by a YoungStar Connect team member, they will use the “YoungStar Evaluation Criteria” to assess your program. The criteria is grouped into four key care areas, and the expectations grow higher with each star level you achieve.
