Developmentally appropriate practice requires educators to consider the individual child, knowledge of child development, and the context in which the child lives. Educators will explore the many factors that contribute to each individual’s context as well as their own background and the way it may intersect with children and families. Use case studies to build understanding and practice listening to families and supporting children whose lived experiences are different than the educator’s.

This course includes how to get started in YoungStar (if you have never participated before), the various options for completing a rating, as well as how you can receive free coaching and other support services to help you reach your quality improvement goals. For providers already participating in YoungStar, this course will review the process and criteria to improve quality and advance in rating.

Evaluate the effectiveness of your supervision and tracking systems to improve real-time responsiveness. Practice staying alert and situationally aware to recognize early signs of potential danger. Analyze strategies such as name-to-face checks to ensure accurate, ongoing records of each child’s name, location, and the total number of children present throughout the day. Then, design customized approaches to maintain focus during critical moments like transitions, naptime, field trips, swimming, and emergency situations. You’ll leave inspired with team-based reflection tools to assess and strengthen your current supervision and tracking practices. This session covers the Scan and Count and Listen components of Active Supervision along with a selection of licensing rules from Wisconsin’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) rulebook. In this interactive session, participants will explore how responsive and respectful routines support development, strengthen relationships, create calmer and more organized environments, and help promote safety. Together, we will reflect on caregiving practices, daily routines, and the important role adults play in creating predictable and responsive experiences throughout the day. 

This training designed for child providers, focusing on fostering a child’s inner drive to learn through respectful and responsive caregiving practices. It introduces the Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) method, emphasizing the importance of treating children with respect, communicating clearly, and responding to their cues. The training also highlights strategies for embedding these caregiving practices into daily routines, promoting independence, exploration, and consistency in a child’s environment.
